…Don’t you just **** it?
*Sub-question:
Do you often come across such stereotyping (that people try to pass off as valid information)?
+Details…
Colleague ‘A’ started a topic about a local celebrity scandal.
I remarked, “That doesn’t give us (our local industry) a very good track record, now does it?”
Colleague ‘B’ said, “That’s common. Look at celebrity ‘X’ (a different, very famous international celebrity).”
Me: “What wrong has she done? She has not broken any major laws, right?”
Colleague ‘B’: “You mean you don’t know? Drugs.”
Me: “Is there any evidence?”
Colleague ‘B’: “All celebrities do drugs.”
Colleague ‘A’ and I contribute no further to the conversation…

This is done by people who can’t think logically and so substitute stereotypes for thinking. Generally, people who only talk about other people aren’t broken out with brains anyway.
For instance, last night, a 49 year old guy was telling me that this guy who was 60 was totally inflexible because of his age. He said this even though there was proof positive, that the 46 year old he was arguing with was totally inflexible, while the 60 ear old was attempting to compromise.
I think we should see each person as unique!

Stereotyping is frequently wrong and leads to discrimination and prejudice./
