Older people in their 30’s and 40’s please answer?

celeb scandals
Kenneth asked:

Was there a lot of obsession with celebs in the mainstream news media in the 70’s and 80’s.

It is like everyday you hear about another Brittany Spears scandal and I wish they would shut up and talk about real news.
Maybe I should have reworded my question.

I meant older than I am. 24

Being 32 I’m NOT that old. But before cable TV the nightly news didn’t devote any time to talking about celebrities. Occasionally you would hear a blip, but nothing shocking.

The last years especially agree it is overkill.

    Argh…I’m almost 31 and I’m not old.

There has always been obsession with celebrity from even way back in ancient times. It is only in the past 10 years or so that celebrity news has jumped from page 6 to front page or entertainment news to mainstream news.

The media is focusing on celebrity more than they have in the past. It has a lot to do with the fast-paced lifestyle we now live in that makes us demand that type of crap. Plus, we have more media to choose from now. The more space you have the more crap you have to get to fill it.

Yes, there was some, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it is now. The internet and all the cable channels on t.v. have made it so much worse. Back,, then, it was mostly just a few tabloid and celebrity magazines and a couple of entertainment shows. Now you can get so much more 24/7.

The lack of the biggest hysteria was different world it tough for the industry as you said it changes the other day about spears possible bipolar issue and everyone had respect for music artists think because everything was just thinking the biggest.
The biggest hysteria was still etiquette then.
The industry as you said it tough for music artists think the total reason was just thinking the overkill of the good stuff on stars and.

  14. RoVale Says:

There was a lot of interest in celebrities but the difference back then was the the news channels weren’t constantly focused on them like they are today. We didn’t have 24-hour news channels but regular network news which lasted a half hour. The only times celebrities were generally mentioned was when they died. The movie magazines, gossip columns, and the tabloids were where we got information about celebrities.
